ALBERT KING
KWEM 1949- 1951

Albert King, the Blues guitarist who influenced Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, grew up just outside of West Memphis listening to KWEM. He started performing on KWEM in the late 1940s alongside future Blues icons Howlin' Wolf, Ike Turner, Sonny Boy Williamson, Junior Parker, James Cotton, and was the core of the Electric Blues movement in America. One of the "Three Kings of the Blues Guitar" (along with B.B. King and Freddie King), King was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
