Riley B. "B.B." King, after traveling from his Indianola, Miss., home, arrived in West Memphis determined to perform on the Sonny Boy Williamson KWEM radio show. Sonny Boy allowed him to perform the day of his arrival, which led to an entertaining job at Miss Annie’s Diner on 16th Street in West Memphis and a 10-minute show of his own at a new Memphis black radio station, WDIA. King earned Blues Hall of Fame recognition in 1980 and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honors in 1987. In 2004 he was awarded the international Polar Music Prize.
